What we know today as BetVictor, began life several decades ago, with the first pages of the story set in 1925. The Victor Chandler Company itself, wasn’t created until 1946, and it was later on in 1963, that the company focused its attention on betting and gambling. Possibly, because this was the year in which gambling shops became legal in the UK. The company was founded by William Chandler, Victor Chandler Jnr’s grandfather, who was succeeded by Victor’s father, Victor Chandler Senior. It was only when his father dies suddenly in 1974, that the business was taken over by the man who became known as the Gentleman Gambler. While the company has its roots in the UK, Victor junior took the bold move of taking the business offshore and moved headquarters to Gibraltar. It was said this was done to avoid UK gambling tax. The company has gone through several name changes. In 2004, it became VC Bet, but in 2008 it reverted back to Victor Chandler. Another name was taken in 2012, when it was renamed BetVictor. The company was taken over in 2014, by business and major shareholder of Victor Chandler International, Michael Tabor. The company also has offices in the Far East.
